Olohunlalaro Commemorates June 12: A Day of Reflection and Renewed Commitment to Nigeria's Democratic Journey
June 12, 2025
Today, the entire Team Naron led by Alh Abdulraheem Muhammed-Saheed Omokehinde Akofe Olohunlalaro (Arowosadini of Offa Land) join all Nigerians in commemorating June 12, a day of profound significance in the nation's democratic history. This day serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made in the struggle for democracy and the unwavering spirit of the Nigerian people in their pursuit of justice, equality, and good governance.
June 12, 1993, marked a pivotal moment when Nigerians, transcending ethnic and religious divides, cast their votes in what is widely regarded as the freest and fairest election in the country's history. Though the mandate was annulled, the ideals it represented which is unity, popular will, and the supremacy of the ballot box remain the bedrock of our democratic aspirations.
"The sacrifices of heroes like Chief M.K.O. Abiola and countless others paved the way for the democracy we enjoy today. Their courage reminds us that democracy is not merely a system of government, but a continuous journey demanding vigilance, participation, and a commitment to justice for all," said Olohunlalaro.
As we celebrate this Democracy Day, we reaffirms the commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, promoting civic engagement, and advocating for policies that foster inclusive development and uphold human rights. We recognize that true democracy goes beyond elections; it thrives on accountability, transparency, the rule of law, and the active participation of all citizens in shaping their collective future.
We call upon all Nigerians, political leaders, civil society organizations, and international partners to continue reflecting on the lessons of June 12 and work collaboratively towards building a more robust and equitable democratic society.
This includes ensuring credible electoral processes, protecting fundamental freedoms, fostering economic opportunities for all, and promoting national unity. We also encourages all citizens to:
Reflect on the ideals of June 12 and their relevance to contemporary Nigeria. Actively participate in democratic processes at all levels. Champion justice, fairness, and accountability in all spheres of life. Promote peace, unity, and understanding across diverse communities.
"May the spirit of June 12 continue to inspire us to build a Nigeria where every voice is heard, every citizen is valued, and the promise of democracy is fully realized."
